Reflections of a great season.

as the shooting season for The New Fly Fisher comes to a close I reflect on the blessings God has given me. I have a terrific, beautiful and very understanding wife Kathi. I have a great daughter Melissa who had given me a fantastic grandson Cody, and I get to make a living at fishing. Thank you Lord for this great life of mine. I am thankful. Here are a few pictures from my latest shoot at Minipi Camps Labrador.

Smallmouth on the North Shore of Superior

Had a fantastic shoot on a lake near the north shore of lake superior. I never saw a lake with so many big bass. The theme of the show is Big Bass on a Budget. My cameraman was brilliant when he got 99% of the takes on camere....IN FULL FRAME!!! Here are a few of the fish I got.

Gander River Newfoundland

Just got back from the Gander River in Newfoundland. The fishing was extremely tough when I got there as there had been a lot of rain and the river was up four feet. It took four days and a lot of fishing to get a show in, but we did it and it should be a good one. Here is one of the fish. I will post more later.

Hawke River Labrador

Had an incredible time on the Hawke River in Labrador. Most fish were full salmon averaging in the 12 pound area. Swinging hitched wetflies were the technique of the week. The water was a little too cold for dry flies. My biggest was 16 pounds. I highly recommend them for an atlantic salmon trip.

Labrador Brook Trout

Here it is June 24th and I haven't added anything new till now. I have been in the bush for two weeks away filming the New Fly Fisher Show. Here are some of the brook trout we have taken. Most were on mouse patterns. I am back in the bush Sunday for another week. When I get home I will post more pictures.

Spring Steelheading

I was lucky enough to have a friend invite me on private land to fish an east Toronto river that was full of steelhead. I had a 20 fish day. One of the best I have had in a long time. I met a film crew from Montreal that a friend of mine was guiding. I did an interview for their on line float fishing show. A great bunch of guys. Thanks Dave for the invite I owe you one.

Preparing for steelhead season.

Getting my things ready for steelhead season. I've been tying flies and checking equipment and making sure I have enough tippet material. It looks like it's going to be a good opener this year with fish still entering the river. We had a slow melt off and and cool spring so most of the fish will still be in the rivers.

Been teaching as of late

I've been doing a fair amount of teaching fly tying this year. I've really enjoyed it. I've been teaching out of Grindstone Angling in Waterdown Ontario. Had a great time teaching anything from beginners to a full dressed Salmon fly. If anyone is interested in private fly tying or fly casting lessons contact me. I reside in the Hamilton Ontario area. Here's a picture of myself and fellow Host Phil Rowley with a young fan of The New Fly Fisher Show. He amazed me with how much he knew about the show. He could even remember fly patterns from each show. This was taken at the Somerset New Jersey fly fishing show. It's the biggest fly fishing show in North America.

I'm finally finished all the scripts from The New Fly Fisher Show. I don't know what I'm going to do with my time now. I guess I will start teaching casting more now.
