Absolute Beginner

This course will take you through the basics of fly casting, from the explanation of what the equipment is to how to properly cast the rod. You will start with the proper grip and then the basic pick up and lay down of the line and graduate to the false cast and why we use it. We will discuss fly rods and how they differ from spinning rods. Discussion on the different fly lines, leaders and tippets and how to choose the proper sizes. You will have the necessary skills to cast in order to fish at the end of this course.

 

 

 

Intermediate Course

This course will take up where the beginners course left off. Subjects that will be covered will be "the roll cast", shooting line, the single haul, and the double haul. Special emphasis will be given in explaining exactly what each cast is, and why you need to know it. Deeper discussion on rod dynamics will be explained during this course, thus allowing a more informed decision when choosing a new rod.

 

Advanced Course

In this course loop control and distance will be the main focus. Specialty casts such as the reach cast, shooting roll cast, curve casts, and casting in the wind will also be covered.

 

F.F.F. Certification Course

In this course all aspects of becoming a certified casting instructor with the Federation of Fly Fishers will be covered. All required casts, theory, and teaching aspects will be covered. Special emphasis will be on the teaching skills required. Students will be given an honest and fair evaluation before they attempt to test for their certification. Please note the students must make their own arrangements with an F.F.F. qualified tester when taking their exam.
